How to Rename Laptops in XP

The name of your laptop is set up during the installation of Windows XP. After naming your laptop during the installation of the XP operating system, it remains permanent unless it is manually renamed. Your laptop can be manually renamed using the XP Control Panel. When renaming the laptop, you can create its new name using any combination of alphanumeric characters. The process of renaming your laptop is the same for all versions of the XP operating system.

1). Boot up your laptop, log in to your Windows XP account and access the Windows desktop. Click the green button that is labeled "Start" on the left side of the Windows taskbar.

2). Click the "Control Panel" button on the right-hand side of the menu that pops up above the "Start" button. Locate and double-click the "System" icon in the "Control Panel" window that opens. If "System" is not listed in the "Control Panel" window, double-click "Performance and Maintenance" and locate and click "System" in the window that appears.

3). Click on the tab labeled "Computer Name" located near the top of the "System" screen. Click the "Change..." button on the right-hand side of this screen.

4). Delete the text located in the white box labeled "Computer Name" in the window that pops up. Using your keyboard, type the new name you would like your laptop to have in this box. Click the "OK" button at the bottom of the Window and your laptop name will be changed to the name that you have entered.

Memory leaks occur when applications and programs crash unexpectedly or stay in Windows virtual memory too long, even when they're not in use. If you do not resolve the root cause of a memory leak, then a leak will gradually quantify until your computer runs out of available memory. When you are low on virtual memory, Windows displays the following message box: "Your computer is running low of virtual memory."

1). Right-click the "Windows Taskbar" and select the "Start Task Manager" link from the drop-down menu. The Windows Task Manager displays on-screen.

2). Click the "Show processes from all users" button, then locate the running "svchost.exe" processes.

3). Right-click one of the "svchost.exe" processes using a high amount of memory and select the "Go to Service(s)" link from the drop-down menu. This takes you to the "Services" tab for that SVCHOST process and highlights the running services.

4). Right-click the already-highlighted service or services and select "Stop Service" from the drop-down menu. This will stop the running service that is using above-normal virtual memory.

5). Close the Task Manager.

Install Arabic Language Support

 

By default, an operating system, such as Windows 7 or Windows XP, may not recognize or support the Arabic language on your computer. This is because the support settings for Arabic language have not been installed on your PC. Arabic language support can be easily activated from your computer's Control Panel.

1). Open the "Start" menu and click "Control Panel."

2). Click "Region and Language" from the list of options in the Control Panel.

3). Open the "Keyboards and Languages" tab and click the "Install/Uninstall Languages" button.

4). Click "Install display languages." You will now see two options: "Launch Windows Update" and "Browse computer or network."

5). Click the "Launch Windows Update" option to install support for Arabic language directly from the Microsoft website. If you select this option, the Windows Update tool will launch. Click the "Install Updates" button to start the file installation.

To install the display languages support using your Windows 7 CD, skip this step and see step 6.

6). Click the "Browse computer or network" option. Insert Windows 7 CD into your CD/DVD drive. Click "Browse" and navigate to your CD/DVD drive. Click "Open." Accept the End User License Agreement to install the language support.

When the installation is complete, you can switch to Arabic language support at any time by navigating to "Control Panel" > "Region and Language" >"Keyboards and Languages" and selecting your new display language under the "Choose a display language:" option. You will be prompted to log off once before the settings take place.

Arabic Language Support for Windows XP

1). Open the "Start" menu and select "Settings" > "Control Panel."

2). Click the "Regional and Language Options" tool.

3). Check the option "Install the file for complex script and right to left languages" under the "Languages" tab. Click "OK." You will be prompted to insert Windows XP CD into your CD/DVD tray to complete the installation process.

Enable Administrator Account during Log On

We can easily get the administrator account by just pressing Ctrl+Alt+Delete during log on screen where we see different accounts. But If we want to see the Administrator account along with all the other user accounts during log on we need to follow the following steps: 

1. Open command prompt by typing the command CMD in Run window

2. Type net user Administrator /active:yes at the prompt C:\> and press enter then we will see the administrator account in addition to other user accounts.

This works even for windows 7.

How to monitor Network connection in Windows XP

    You might want to monitor network connection after setting it up in Windows XP. This XP monitoring feature is useful to check your network speed, sent and received traffic information. You can check network card IP information by using this feature also.

Disable Local Administrator Account In Windows

Before you disable the local Administrator account, make sure that there is at least one other local or network user who can gain access to the computer with administrator permissions. Otherwise, you will not be able to reverse this action in the future.

1. Log on as Administrator--> or as a user with administrator permissions.

2. Right-click My Computer--> and then click Manage.

3. In the left pane--> expand the Local Users and Groups--> and then click Users.

4. In the right pane--> double-click the Administrator account.

5. On the General tab--> select the Account is disabled check box--> and then click OK.

6. Quit the Computer Management console. The new setting takes effect the next time you attempt to log on to this computer.
